There was something sparkly glistening in my eye as I woke up on my first morning in Versailles. It took me a moment to realize it was the reflection of the sunlight on the lake. The lush green leaves of the trees framing the lake swept gently in the wind like curtains, revealing soft layers of glistening light here and there and I could feel the warmth of the sun on my skin combined with a gentle breeze as I opened the window to let in some fresh air. I was a little sleep deprived from my red eye the previous night because I never manage to sleep very much on plane ride, but I slept so well once I got settled at Les Etangs de Corot. I love being surrounded by nature, and the space and design of the hotel is just beautiful. Everything made me feel so calm, relaxed and at ease. Waking up here was such gorgeous experience. There was no doubt in my mind that this is the escape from New York that I needed.

I always love starting the day with a cup of hot water and lemon. It's such great way to kick start your digestive system while keeping hydrated. As for breakfast, I got myself some coffee, fresh fruit, grape juice, yoghurt and granola and a very large assortment of breads and pastries. I took my time enjoying the light and the view in my cozy bed as I made my way through breakfast. It was divine.

Having arrived on a rather cold and cloudy morning the day before, it was so lovely to see a bit of sunshine. The temperature was much colder in France - I went from enjoying 20 degree celsius weather in New York City down to just 12 degrees in Versailles. But what a better excuse to stay cozy in bed and have breakfast come to you instead, right?
