Oh, Cameron Highlands... Where do I even begin? My visit to this beautiful paradise in Malaysia almost happened by complete accident. Jeanette, my German friend whom I had met in Kuala Lumpur showed me a pamphlet and it was love at first sight. I remember the disappointment I felt when I realized that my flight to Singapore was on Saturday and there was no way I was going to have enough time to schedule a visit. When the news showed that the air pollution index had hit a high of 400 in Singapore, I knew I had to reschedule my flight and head up to the Cameron Highlands.
After a four and a half hour ride across the swirly mountains on the bus, I was so happy to escape the throat choking haze that had traveled from the forest fires of Indonesia which had began blanketing the city center of Malaysia. As my trip was so hurriedly planned, I booked the first room I found, packed my bags, and jumped on the bus. You can imagine my surprise to discover such a beautiful, whimsical little garden upon the entrance of my guest house. Food, flowers, sunshine. What more do you need after an exhausting bus ride? Almost nothing makes me happier than being able to wake up to this kind of beauty in the morning. It's this kind of simplicity that gives meaning to life. I was more than happy to call this place home, even if it was just for a few days.
