Kale Kiwi smoothie

Today is definitely a kiwi day. I got myself a big wonderful bag of organic kiwis yesterday so today's Sunday breakfast was filled with much of this delicious exotic superfruit. Contrary to popular belief, did you know the kiwifruit is actually native to Northern China? Seeds of the kiwifruit were only introduced to New Zealand in the early 20th century, with the first vines fruiting in 1910. They were marketed as Chinese Gooseberry or 陽桃 in Chinese, but are more commonly known as 獼猴桃 in present day. Kiwis are a rich source of vitamins. In fact, one kiwi fruit contains more vitamin C than an equivalent amount of orange. Why, yes. Awesome things do come in small packages :)

INGREDIENTS  (please choose organic if possible)

  • 2 Kiwis
  • 2 Leaves of kale
  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Apple
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1/2 cup of coconut water

In a blender, add 1/2 cup of coconut water, 2 kiwis, kale leaves, banana, apple and the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon. Blend for 1 minute. Serve chilled and enjoy!
