Today's breakfast is a yummy blueberry banana oatmeal porridge that you can whip together in less than 5 minutes and it tastes divine! Not only are oats filled with soluble fibre, eating a bowl of oatmeal a day can help lower blood cholestrol and heart disease. Oats are one of my favourite breakfast foods because they are healthy, tasty and so easy to make! You can dress them up with any fruit, nut and seed toppings and they can be mixed with soy milk, almond milk or simply water and still taste delicious. This is a very contraversial topic, but I personally try avoiding cow's milk because of the inhumane treatments that take place in commercial dairy farms. In addition, did you know that not everyone can stomach dairy, especially if you're of Asian decent? As much as 75% of the world's population are lactose intolerant, which means their bodies are genetically incapable of digesting milk. The human body really wasn't designed to digest lactose and dairy. It's also just weird to me. The more I think about it, the more it weirds me out. We don't farm and distribute human breast milk (which our bodies are genetically engineered to consume as babies), so why do it with animals? Think about it. You shouldn't really be drinking milk unless you are a baby calf :)

INGREDIENTS  (Please use organic whenever possible)

  • Steelcut oatmeal
  • Flaxseed
  • Chia seeds
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Coconut flakes
  • Hemp seeds
  • Dried goji berries
  • Raw honey
  • Water or nutmilk

After mixing the porridge to your preferred texture and consistency (I like mine when it's in between being stiff and a little bit running), add a teaspoon of flaxseed and chia seed to your oats and mix well. I like to play with my food and make it look pretty, so I made a floral pattern with cut bananas and frozen wild blueberries before topping center with coconut flakes and dried goji berries. As a final touch, sprinkle some wonderful hemp seeds and drizzle a little bit of raw honey. Enjoy!
