Lately, it feels like New York City has become a giant heat bubble. When it's a million degrees outside in the blazing sun, we obviously all know how important it is to protect our skin, but after looking around, I feel like most of us girls forget all about our hair! That's right. Your hair needs and deserves nourishment, hydration and sun protection, too! To be completely honestly, I barely gave two thoughts to how much my hair can be damaged in the heat during my younger days, but I lot of that has changed since I turned 25. Today, I will be sharing some products I'm loving this summer that's helping me keep my hair in great condition in this crazy heat wave.
On days my hair is feeling limp and flat, I use Aveda's Pure Abundance shampoo and conditioner to give my hair some extra help in the volume department. These products boosts hair strands with natural bulking agents like kaolin clay and acacia gum and will leave you smelling fresh like jasmine, peppermint, palmarosa and ylang ylang.
I had no idea what to expect when I first got my hands on Alterna Haircare's Caviar Anti-Aging Replenishing Moisture Collection, but let me tell you my thoughts after one month of usage: I LOVE IT. I find majority of shampoos and conditioners to leave my hair feeling rough and course after every wash and I can't even explain how much I hate that. Alterna's Carviar Anti-Aging Replishing Moisture shampoo and conditioner left my hair feeling and looking as soft as silk from the very first wash. I don't know if it's because of my hair type (which is limp, long and straight), but find this product to be super compatible with my hair and it's one of my favorite products at the moment! It smells like heaven too!
If you think SPF is just for your skin, your hair is probably begging for some protection too! I've been spritzing my hair with Aveda's Sun Care Protection Hair Veil almost every day this summer and it's become an essential party of my everyday haircare routine. It's a super lightweight miracle mist in a bottle with water-resistant UV defense that forms an invisible screen which protects hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours, minimizing damage and dryness.
Just when I thought CC cream was just something for my face, Alterna Haircare introduced their Caviar CC Cream and the quality of this product blows me away. The Caviar CC Cream is a “complete correction” cream and it's essentially a superproduct that provides moisture, shine, smoothness, softness, anti-breakage, heat protection, light hold, UV protection, manageability, and strength — everything your hair needs to look flawless. I finger comb a tiny bit into my hair after shampoo and conditioning as a leave in treatment and it makes me feel like a million bucks.
I love hair treatments! These beauty oils are intensely moisturizing and does wanders for dry hair and scalp. As a hair oil treatment, I massage a generous amount of beauty oil on my scalp and finger comb down to the tips. I like to leave it on overnight, or at least 3 hours minimum and then wash it off with shampoo and conditioner. You can also use these beauty oils as a hair serum by finger combing a light coat (2-3 drops) from the mid-length down to the tips of your hair to add some extra shine! What's great about these beauty oils from Aveda is that they're not just for the hair. They are multifunctional and are just as amazing on the skin and body too!
Aside from the amazing results that these products deliver, another big reason why I personally love and support brands like Aveda and Alterna Haircare is because they create products formulated without harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates and phthalates. If you read the ingredients on your shampoo and conditioner, chances are they probably contain all these of these chemicals along 300 other ingredients you can't pronounce listed on your shampoo. It's become more and more important to me to find high quality products that are free of harsh, toxic ingredients that harm the earth and detoxing my hair care routine has been one of the best things I've done for myself. Maybe you'll try it too?
