I am delighted to be a featured blogger this month on Better Marche, an organic web magazine based in Los Angeles for the Japanese market where I got to share my organic green smoothie bowl recipe. Superfoods were the theme and I got to share some of my favourite things.
Bee pollen is one of my favourite superfoods. It is made by honey bees and is the food of the young bees. It is considered one of the nature's most completely nourishing foods as it contains nearly all nutrients required by humans. Bee-gathered poLlens are rich in protein, free amino acids, vitamins, including B-complex, and folic acid. Bee pollen is more rich in protein than any animal source. It contains more amino acids than beef, eggs or cheese of equal weight. About half of its protein is in form of free amino acids that are ready to be used directly by the body. It is important to recognize that a one teaspoon does of bee pollen takes one bee working eight hours a day for one month to gather. Each bee pollen pellet contains over 2 million flower pollen grains and one teaspoon contains over 2.5 billion grains of flower pollen. Bees are so important to our eco system and should be held in the highest regard as an animal.
